Did You Know That Veterans are Entitled

to Funeral Benefits?

Survivors of individuals who served in the military, whether active, retired, or honorably discharged, may qualify for various benefits, such as:

An American flag (typically drapes the casket).

Burial in a National Cemetery.

Choice of flat bronze, flat marble, flat granite, or upright marble markers.

Families of eligible veterans, including retirees or those who passed away while receiving care at a VA facility, may receive a lump sum payment of $300. If burial isn't in a National Cemetery, reimbursement of up to $300 for plot or interment costs is possible, with proof of payment required. Private cemeteries often assist in filing for this benefit. For veterans who die due to a service-connected disability, the VA may reimburse funeral costs of $1500 or less, without additional VA death benefits. Active duty personnel may be entitled to varying amounts.

The surviving spouse, if unmarried, and dependent children of the veteran are eligible for burial in the National Cemetery.

There is no deadline for applying for a marker. We can assist in applying for these benefits if you provide the veteran's Honorable Discharge papers. For VA Assistance and Information, call 1-800-827-1000 or visit www.va.gov.
