Isidoro “Izzy” Ramirez, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend entered into heaven’s gates on June 11th. Walking into the arms of his parents, Jesus and Maria Ramirez, along with his brother Antonio Ramirez and sister Celia Ramirez Munoz.
Isidoro was born on April 4, 1924 in Port Arthur, TX. and at the age of 4 his family moved to Eagle Lake. After completing school he joined the military serving our country from 1943 to 1946. He served in WWII and was in the Army Air Corp which is now the Air Force, stationed in Guam as a Military Policemen and was the last standing WWII Veteran of Eagle Lake to date.
After he was discharged from the service, he returned to work at A.J. Struss Auto Supply in Eagle Lake, where he worked for 65 years.
On December 17, 1949 he married Antonia (Jimenez) Ramirez. They went on to have four children Gilbert, Suzanne, Berta and Orlando. From there the family grew by leaps and bounds.
Throughout Isidoro’s life he served in many civic and religious organizations. He was Assistant Scout Master for Troop 334 and Scout Master for Troop 313 and he was awarded the Silver Beaver award, the highest award from the Boy Scout Council. He helped build the Our Lady of Guadalupe church where he was a member of the church and served on various committees. He was the founder of the OLG Men’s Club and carried this organization over to The Parish of the Nativity Church.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the Eagle Lake Ex-Military Association. Isidoro was also a founder of the Mexican American Youth Council (MAYC) an organization granting College scholarships to deserving youth in the community. In 2016, Izzy was honored by his home town by being selected as Parade Marshal of the Eagle Lake Annual Christmas Parade.
Isidoro loved to spend time with his family, gardening, Friday night football games (Go RAIDERS), visiting friends at the coffee shop daily and time at Johnny’s Eagle Barber Shop.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Antonia (Jimenez) Ramirez. They have 4 children, son, Gilbert Ramirez(Mary), daughter, Suzanne Sykowski(Ray), daughter, Berta Wimple(Rick), and son, Orlando(Ann) Ramirez. He is also survived by grand children, Gilbert Ray Ramirez(Nora), Jeremy(Monica) Ramirez, Selena(Greg) Stewart, Joseph, Adam, and Gabrielle Ramirez and, great grand children, Andrea and Natalia Ramirez and Landon and Hayden Stewart. Also a host of nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.
Pallbearers were his 6 grandchildren. Honorary Pallbearers were the Ex-Military Association of Eagle Lake, Parish of the Nativity Men’s Club, friends of the coffee shop, Jose Posada, Judge Stan Warfield, Melvin Stancik and longtime friend, Johnny Prazak.
As many people in our family and community know, Izzy was always ready to lend a helping hand whenever and wherever it was needed and will be missed by many.
