Ola Mae Wiese Ashby, 98, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 28, 2026. Most recently a resident of Pflugerville, Texas, where she moved to be near her daughter, Judy, Mae was a lifelong resident of the Eagle Lake area and a beloved member of the community.

Born on March 26, 1928, in Lissie, Texas, to Edward Alvin and Winnie Thomas Wiese, Mae was the youngest of five children. A true “country girl,” she grew up surrounded by faith, family, and lifelong friends. She graduated from Eagle Lake High School in 1945 and attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, where she was named Beauty Queen in 1947 before earning her Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting in 1948.

That same year, Mae began what would become a distinguished 35-year career as a second-grade teacher in Eagle Lake. She retired in 1984 after touching countless lives through her dedication to education and her love for children.

Mae was a pillar of her community and received many honors throughout her life, including nomination for the Colorado County Outstanding Older Texan Award in 2011, recognition as Lady of the Year by Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and serving as Eagle Lake Parade Marshal in 2012.

She enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, volunteering at the Eagle Lake Thrift Shop, and traveling the world with her husband. Mae was an active member of Eagle Lake Methodist Church, the Civic Garden Club, the Tom Waddell Nature Club, and two bridge clubs. She also served on the board of the Prairie Edge Museum.

Mae was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bobby Joe Ashby; her parents, Edward Alvin and Winnie Thomas Wiese; and her siblings, Lois Hobbs, Clifford, Alvin and Howard Wiese.

She is survived by her son, Dennis Brock Ashby and wife Terry Voss Ashby; her daughter, Judy Kay Williams and husband David Williams; her granddaughters, Camille Ashby Feliz and husband Saul, Caroline Ashby Burger and husband Greg, and Cassi Ashby Story and husband Shawn; her grandson, Dustin James Miksch and wife Meagan; and her eight great-grandchildren, Isabel and Cecilia Feliz, Madeline and Sloane Burger, Kai and Avery Story, and Brooklyn and Lawson Miksch.
