Nicea Gonzales Garza

Nicea Garza, 82 of Eagle Lake, Texas passed away peacefully on January 12, 2024.

Nicea was born on November 17, 1941 in General Terán, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, to her parents Isauro and Isabel Gonzales.

On December 4, 1960, in Los Fresnos, Texas, Nicea married Heberto Garza. They shared sixty-three wonderful years of marriage, during which they immigrated to the United States and built a beautiful family. Recognizing the significance of hard work and perseverance, Nicea made countless sacrifices for the betterment of her family. Deeply devoted to her faith, she was a member of the Parish of the Nativity in Eagle Lake, TX. Nicea will be remembered for her infectious smile, great sense of humor, and phenomenal cooking – all of which will be dearly missed.

Remaining to cherish Nicea’s memory are her husband, Heberto Garza, her five siblings, two brothers-in-law, and two sisters-in-law, Geraldo & Maria Sanchez, Isauro & Elisa Gonzales, Rolando & Bernie Gonzales, Jose Gonzales, and Robert & Norma Ramirez. Her four children, three sons-in-law and one daughter-in-law, Arthur & Bertha Cruz, Daniel & Cindy Garza, Michael & Elizabeth Duarte, Andrew & Sylvia Castaneda. Her nine grandchildren Jessica Elliott, Mary Brannon, Lauren Montez, Nicholas Duarte, Rebecca Garza, Christopher Duarte, Daniel Garza, Jonathan Castaneda, and David Castaneda and her two great-grandchildren Ava Elliot and Nathan Montez. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

Nicea was preceded in death by her parents Isauro and Isabel Gonzales, brother Ciro Gonzales and sister Narce Valencia.

Pallbearers will be Justin Montez, Nicholas Duarte, Christopher Duarte, Daniel Garza, Jonathan Castaneda and David Castaneda.

Visitation will be held on January 17, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Eagle Lake Funeral Home. Rosary to follow starting at 7:00 p.m.  The memorial service will take place on January 18, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the Parish of the Nativity in Eagle Lake, Texas.
