Kenneth James Mahalitc passed away on May 23,2026, at the age of 89.
Born April 11, 1937 to Hattie (Buxkemper) and John Mahalitc in Columbus, Texas.
Kenneth attended school in Eagle Lake and during his high school years was very active in FFA and was the first person from Eagle Lake to be awarded the Lone Star Farmers degree. After graduation he served 2 years in the US Army and was stationed most of this time in Europe.
Upon returning to Eagle Lake he and his high school sweetheart Jo Ann Konvicka were married. While living within the city limits of Eagle Lake he was elected to the city council and at that time was chosen to travel to Washington D. C. to accept an award given by Lady Bird Johnson in her Keep America Beautiful Campaign - many small towns across the US were recognized for their work in keeping their towns clean and beautiful - with Eagle Lake being one of those chosen.
Kenneth served on the board of directors of the First National Bank of Eagle Lake from 1981-2010. He also served on the FSA board for 9 years.
Kenneth was well respected in the farming community- as a lifelong farmer, he remained forward-thinking throughout his life. Besides his usual crops of corn, cotton and soybeans, he never hesitated to explore new crops including potatoes and sesame seed and adapted to the technology changes that transformed modern farming.
He was preceded in death by this parents Hattie and John Mahalitc and brother John Mahalitc, Jr..
He is survived by his loving family - his wife of 68 years Jo Ann, daughters Lisa (Thierry) Hoffman, Lana (John) Grammer, and Lori (Mark) Faldyn. Grandchildren - Kevin and Alyson Hoffman, Kinsey and Scott Friedrichs, Jamie and Jason Safier, Lauren and Jeremy Dusek, Nikki and Bobby Thaxton, Kelsey and Kendrick Cunningham, and Garrett Grammer and fiance Anna. Great-grandchildren - Wade, Kyle, and Kyndal Hoffman, Harper and Gunner Friedrichs, Reid, Chase and Lillie Safier, Eden, Emry and Colt Dusek, Landyn and Claire Thaxton, and Leo, Shia, Hayden and Markie Cunningham.
And as the plaque hanging on their kitchen wall says "Old Farmers Never Die - They Just Get Plowed Under".
