Herbert
Ramirez
Mar 16, 1934 — Jun 15, 2026
Herbert Martinez Ramirez, 92, of Eagle Lake, TX, passed away on June 15,2026.
Herbert was born in Waelder, TX on March 16, 1934, to parents Manuel and Feleciana Ramirez.
He married the love of his life, Hortense, on November 28, 1955 in Houston, Texas.
Born during the Great Depression-era, Herbert grew up on the family farm on the outskirts of Waelder, Texas. As a youth, he and his family worked the farm and often traveled the state to pick/harvest various crops. As a young man, Herbert served in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas from 1956 to 1957. Herbert and his wife, Hortense, lived in Houston, Waelder, Luling, and Eagle Lake, Texas. Herbert had many different jobs throughout his life but primarily worked in the field of creative wood-making and as an auto and truck mechanic. He worked for the City of Eagle Lake for several years in the 1980s and 1990s. After retirement from full-time work in 1996, he enjoyed working on many types of engines and motors and was an exceptional handyman, including doing home repair and remodeling, as he was especially skilled at carpentry. In September 2024, Herbert’s wife, Hortense, went to heaven, bringing an end to their time here on earth after nearly 69 years of marriage. Herbert endured but missed her more than words could ever describe, as she was his true love and his world. But Herbert believed that Hortense went to heaven first to light the way for him. In the early morning hours of 15 June 2026, Herbert was truly at peace and ready when God called him home. Herbert loved his sons and family and enjoyed his friends, but Herbert had two true passions in his life – his wife Hortense and working.
He was a member of Our Lady of Guadelupe Catholic Church and then Parish of the Nativity Catholic Church, Eagle Lake, Texas.
Remaining to cherish Herbert’s memory are son Ernest Ramirez, daughter-in-law Mary Ramirez; grandchildren, William Ramirez, Heather Cope, Robert Ramirez, Steven Ramirez, Anthony Ramirez, David Ramirez, Jr., Ryan Meehan; great-grandchildren, Alexis Ramirez, Sophia Ramirez, Anthony C. Ramirez, Brighton Cope, Liam Ramirez, Trillian Meehan, Skylar Meehan, and Vivica Strong. Siblings Chavela Ramirez, Lupe Mathis, and Esteban Ramirez from a family of 21 (including 4 step) brothers and sisters.
