Eagle Lake

Lydia Balusek Jochetz former resident of Eagle Lake, TX passed peacefully in her sleep on March 3, 2021 at Forum Parkway SNF in Bedford, TX.  She was 102.

Lydia was born September 30, 1918 in Placedo, TX to Frank and Fannie Balusek.  She moved to Eagle Lake where she met her husband, Charlie F. Jochetz. They resided in Eagle Lake for almost 40 years and raised three children while farming rice on the family farm near Nottawa.  By the 1970’s, Lydia and Charlie had moved to Houston where she would retire from Joske’s department store.  In later years, she lived in Wharton and Katy before moving to Bedford to be nearer her family.

Lydia was always a farmer at heart and enjoyed keeping a flower garden well into her 90’s.

Lydia had been a dominating softball pitcher in the church league and in later years enjoyed watching and often attending Texas Rangers games in Arlington.  In 2018, she was chosen by the Ranger’s as their “Fan of the Game” in recognition of her joy for baseball.

Lydia was most proud of her family and enjoyed watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow and treasured the opportunities to show them off.  She enjoyed Texas road-trips, especially when they involved family, wild-flowers, and fresh kolaches.  She was also a world-traveler, once spending three months with her family in Melbourne, Australia.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jochetz Baxter, of Bedford, TX, her grandchildren Richard Baxter of Fort Worth, TX, Ralph and Melodie Avenius Baxter of Leesburg, VA, and Penelope Jochetz of Chirnside Park, VIC, Australia, and her three great-grandchildren, Chad and Kailey Baxter of Leesburg, VA and Jaime Jochetz-MacDowall of Wheeler’s Hills, VIC, Australia.

Lydia was preceded in death by her husband Charlie, her son and his wife Charles David and Diane Regan Jochetz, her daughter Genny Sue Jochetz, her granddaughter Andrea Suzanne Jochetz and son in law Richard Lee Baxter.
